Love this piece! And can sooo relate - I’ve been freelance for 10 years (minus one perm stint just before COVID) and haven’t wanted to ever move away from working for myself. But, I applied for the same job you did! So interesting. I love the message in this, we are always where we’re meant to be 💓
Thank you so much Ceylan, I so appreciate your kind words! I know in my soul that working for myself is the right thing for me personally and professionally, even though it can often be mentally taxing, but should I also be thinking about future me and what's to come? Should I be setting things up for potential maternity leave? Is a full time job just...easier?! So many thoughts, so little energy or inclination to actually think them through properly 😂
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 such a brilliant piece, Lauren. I really appreciate how honest you are, and also the way you made it clear that it’s perfectly okay if someone paths aren’t for you! I think it’s important to remember that there really is no harm in trying, and sometimes rejection can feel like the be and end all so your take is really refreshing 🩷
Thank you SO much Ella, this means so much to me! There's so much mental load that you take on when you go self-employed, and people just don't talk about it - perhaps there's a post there, too. It's really bloody hard, and even when your business is going well, you're still low-key worrying that it's all going to implode.
Yes Lauren!! 👏👏👏 from one freelancer to another I get the constant ups and downs and the lure of a full time job and the right to just RELAX but I also know that like you, I could never work for someone else again. I am way too tied to my freedom and ability to do whatever I want (you know, so long as the clients don’t complain 😅)
But in all seriousness sometimes you have to dip your toes into that world to remember who you are. It sounds like you did exactly that!

Moments like these are really defining, like a reminder of your overall aim and direction! Rejection can be a blessing at times 💖
