Staff in 13 out 25 London venues, claiming to be part of the Ask for Angela scheme, didn't know how to react when BBC undercover reporters asked for Angela at the bar
I saw this report earlier in the week and was stunned. Luckily I've never had to use it, but found the posters comforting when I was out. The fact that the staff were oblivious made me feel sick, and to be honest I'd like some answers or a response as to what they're going to do about it, because it's totally knocked my trust!
Right?! I’ve never had to use it either, but so many women only go on dates in pubs where they know the scheme is in place, so to hear this is absolutely sickening. Why is it that we are continually left to advocate for our own safety? Literally nobody cares. Nobody.
I've fortunately never had to ask for Angela, but I often wonder how prepared staff would be. It's surprising there isn't some sort of accreditation for pubs where they have to do regular staff training etc. As you say, further proof they just don't care about women's safety.
I would love to know how many women have actually had to ask for Angela in the time that the scheme has been in place - has that number decreased over time as we’ve realised that it’s not being implemented perhaps as enthusiastically as it was at the beginning? It’s just such a damning indictment of the way we still choose to politely ignore violence against women, rather than tackling it head on.
Tbh I’m not surprised by this at all, although of course it’s terrible. I’ve often wondered what would actually happen if someone tried to use it. And in a situation where someone did really need it (rather than using it for purposes of investigation), the person asking will then probably not only be in a possible dangerous situation, but also I imagine it would have a mental impact as well to have asked for help which should be there and not receive it. I wonder if venues will be sparked to implement proper Ask for Angela procedures after seeing the report - or maybe they’ll take the posters down

In the U.S. we're supposed to order an "angel shot", but the results are exactly the same. Thanks for shining a light on it.
Yes, I’ve heard of this! I’m so sorry that things aren’t much better in the US.
